Cancun 2019 – The Trip Down

The trip down would normally not be anything to make a comment about however this year it was a real pain in the ass.

I was flying Sunwing as usual as they have an exclusive deal with the Riu Resorts out of Canada.

Checking the night before I found my flight had been delayed. My original flight was to depart at 8:00 am it had been delayed until 12:00 noon.

Now this meant the ride I had arranged to pick me up at 4:30 am for the 5:00 am checkin time would not be required until 8:30 am. So I contacted my ride and rescheduled.

We arrived at the airport and I was dropped off at the terminal. When I checked in I found the flight had further been delayed until 1:20 pm.

So Now I had over 4 hours to kill at the airport.

We finally started to load the Aircraft at 1:30 and we actually wheels up at 2:00 pm, six hours late departing the airport.

So instead of landing in Cancun at 3:50 and being at the hotel by 5:30 or so we did not land until 10:30 where there was minimal staff to clear us thru customs. Instead of arriving at the hotel while the sun was still up I finished checking in at 11:45 pm, The restaurants were closed except for the sports bar.

Compensation from Sunwing – a lousy $15.00 food voucher that had to be used at the airport in Vancouver where it was just about enough to get a slice of pizza and a drink.

Cancun Vacation

Had a little bit of a scare last week with Sunwing Vacations contacting me letting me know that they had cancelled my flight to Cancun. Fortunately they were able to find me a seat on the flight on the Saturday both ways.

I was a little worried as while they had found me a flight it took them a couple hours to get back to me with regards to making sure my room would be available.

Getting down to the point where I am making sure everything is ready for the trip. Clothing is not an issue however making sure I have enough sunscreen and medications etc. for the trip is keeping me running. Also my car insurance runs out before I get back so another thing to take care of before I leave.

Going Back to Cancun

Well I booked my flight. I will be returning to Cancun and the Riu Palace Peninsula Resort this coming April.

Riu Palace Penninsula

I spent quite a bit of time looking at other resorts and this one seemed to still be the best fit for me.

It is not adults only but does have a section reserved for Adults. This means I don’t have a bunch of screaming kids running around but I also don’t have as many drunken adults either.

Down Side? Not sure could be missing out on a bunch of young hotties at the adults only resort. Don’t really know.

The big one for me is no dinner reservations even for the themed restaurants, last time I was at an all inclusive that I had to reserve a table at the person taking my reservation seemed more interested in selling me addon packages from massages to tours than getting me a table for the evening.

Big disadvantage. Had very little choice in tour operators to fly with. Sunwing Airlines has an exclusive with Riu for Canada.

I could have booked the hotel and airfare separately but it would of cost me almost $400.00 more.

Happy New Year

Well this year is almost over. It has been an interesting year, I am still undecided if it was a good one or a bad one. Did a little traveling which is good, had some health issues which was bad.

Overall I am going with Neutral

A number of years ago I solved the problem of failed New Years Resolutions by making on that is easy to keep.

“I Resolve not to make another New Years Resolution”

That being said I do plan on continuing with my weight loss program. I am half way there already.

Hope everyone has a happy new year.

WordPress Upgraded.

Well WordPress did not give me a choice, I woke up and WordPress 5.0 was installed. Even though I had installed a plugin designed to stop the installation. So now comes the work of making sure everything works and is secure.

I have made some changes to the welcome page and I can see a whole site redesign is in the works.
